Propper's Mil-Spec Boonie Hat is made from a durable cotton ripstop material that protects you from the sun. The wide brim blocks sunlight from your eyes and the material keeps you cool on hot days. There are branch loops made of a tough nylon webbing along the crown for durability. There are also bellowed drain holes on the crown for ventilation and a breathable interior. A leather keeper holds the hat in place when you sweat or are in motion and the adjustable chin cord allows for easy size customization. It also lets the hat be taken off and carried around the neck.

The hat is a great Boonie. Great for keeping the Georgia sun off my thinning hair on my walks and at the range. Also like the brim all the way around to keep sun from other parts of my head which a baseball cap does not do. Seems well made out of good materials. I specifically bought the all cotton one as I don't like some synthetics for this kind of hat. Vents seem adequate. Color is as pictured and is great for the city Boonie.

My ony caveat is the sizing. There is a note that one should buy the size up from what one normally wears as the hat runs small. I have a 7 1/4 head size. I debated betewen the 7 1/2 and the 7 3/4. Asked customer service about the option. They suggested the larger size. Got 7 3/4 but I was able to put my first finger between the head band and my head. Asked customer service about the possibility of purposefully shrinking the hat by drying in hot dryer and was advised the hat will shrink so do any shrinking carefully. I washed the hat with the rest of the laundry in cold water but put the hat in dryer by itself on high heat. This material dries very quickly and within 10 minutes it was dry. Tried it on and the hat now is somewhat smaller. I estimate it is now at about 7 1/2. It is still a bit loose, but much better than before.

All said, this is still a great hat. Just a bit hard to get a really precise fit.

These are great Boonies Hats, light and everything Propper says it is. It has a 2-1/2" brim which is nice rather then the 3" I seen in other types and that are not as good, its original to military style, only thing is, I wish they were made in the USA rather the Dominican Republic. Would recommend these Boonie Hat to anyone, great for outdoor activities.

I've been purchasing quite a bit of gear through Propper recently and have had not even the slightest disappointment l until now.
Spent 12 years in the Army (1979-90) and know the characteristics of how these clothes fit and the shrinkage that is apparent with the cotton as well (bought several pairs of cotton BDU's).
I took the advise of the disclaimer on the 100% cotton ripstop boonie and bought
7 3/4, as opposed to the 7 1/2 I would normally wear;big mistake!
I washed in super hot with the understanding it would shrink and got minimal shrinkage, still 2 fingers too large!
I in turn reordered a 7 1/4, which if sizing follows suit should be perfect! Even if it does shrink 5%.
These hats fit true to size and the disclaimer on "Hat sizes run small, order one size up" should be removed; in my experience with this article.
This hat is made extremely well as with ALL Propper articles and it will last a life time!
If it doesn't blow off your head!!
If the sizing info was accurate I'd have given this review a 5 star rating.

We stopped at an island while on a cruise and I saw a couple of people wearing the boonie hat. It looked great out in the hot sun and high surf. It protects you from the sun and they said they've been using them for years. I was in the army but before boonie hats. I think it's going to work out great......

Propper is the brand I go to when I need a tough, crushable, all weather adventure hat. The hat band is true-to-size advertised unlike its poly/cotton and mil-spec cousins that seem to run about a 1/2 inch small. 100% cotton material is also lighter weight and may not be as tough, but you cannot beat It for its utility and the value for the price.

Proppper makes some of the best military-style clothing available, and their boonie hats are no exception. This tiger stripe hat was sold at a closeout price which made it an even better deal. This is one of my favorite patterns, as a Vietnam era veteran. With current trends toward digitally-designed camouflage, it seemed a good idea to grab one of these while they're still available. They're 100% cotton, so get one that's bigger than you normally wear and it will still fit after it goes through the laundry.

The hat fits ok... not to happy with the craftsmanship...the vents at the sides are kinda twisted...makes the material uneven and the appearance weak... I'd send it back but the hassle of replacing it will only frustrate me further... ???

Everything is good... except one thing. Somehow MY hat got by quality control. My sewn-on outer band is misaligned. It's on there rock solid but it wouldn't pass inspection from the man in charge. Good thing it's for field use only.

I placed this order because a previous hat I purchased was too large. I was going to write off the hat when I was contacted by customer service asking how my order went. I told them about the hat issue and they refunded the hat off my order. Then I also got a free shipping deal! So I tell everyone about the great customer service I recieved from tacticalgear.com.
