I bought my first pair about 25 years ago from a military surplus store and I fell in love with them, comfortable and absolutely waterproof. I was so happy when I found these boots still up for sale after many years... Unfortunately I had to send them back for a flaw where the sole is fused to the leather, and when I got the second pair in replacement I noticed other similar small cracks in the same spot. I then decided to try to test them and see if they’d hold water, so I put the boot toe under a trickle of running tap water, and after just a few seconds I felt water seeping abundantly into the boot from a defective stitch between the tongue and the metatarsal guard (it was evident, by comparing the two boots, that the two parts weren’t sewed as they should have been). I haven’t even bothered to try them on this time around, boots with such issues are of no use if one needs to rely on them in any weather condition, you would risk having your feet drenched by just stepping into a tiny shallow puddle by mistake, let alone marching for miles on rough terrain under heavy rain. I might have been so unlucky as to get the only two defective pairs, but, since I believe these are not US military standard issue anymore, I suspect the manufacturer might have dropped the QC bar, as they don’t have to comply with any military specs anymore. Very disappointing, I won’t buy them ever again unless I have a chance to inspect them prior to purchasing, only hope I can return them and get a refund.

Only reason for a 4 star rating is because the sizing is off. I wear a 11w and I think by going down to 10.5w would have been best for me. I wear the military issue wool socks so I know it's not a sock issue. This is the same quality and same leather that I wore in the military long ago except the sole has changed which you get a better grip and less dirt in the lugs of the sole. I will recommend this boot and this company for anyone wanting to purchase but as the issue with size you might want to try a size down.

I am 65 yrs old...and have had boots similar to these since the late 60s.....and these are by far the most comfortable....best quality....and exceptional price. I will be telling all my military buddies to buy these....nothing else comes close for less than $300. Delivery was also quick....and sizing very spot on.

Wow! Just arrived! The box was so light I was worried but these are awesome sexy boots! Fit is PERFECT! I normally wear a mens 9 but sized down to an 8 after reading the reviews. I also chose wide just in case and all I can say is WOW! Perfect comfortable fit! Supple soft leather, awesome soles and inside they fit my foot arch and heel comfortably! Even sizing down one size I have a bit of comfort room for those days with thicker socks. Super happy!! Very sexy boot! I love the combat look and functionality! Only complaint is the laces dont look super duty but the boot laced up nice and soft and everything appears good quality! Just totally fell in love with these! Happy Customer!

Well I Have worn out 4 pair of these boots! Dad bought me my first pair when I was in the 7th grade! I eventually wore the boots where you wore them for a reason!! I took two rounds from a Sniper one in each leg!! I got well and put on my boots again and never have worn another pair! I did my time in military and then LE! I had a wicked car crash which stopped my career and the ability to do anything again! I still wear my beautiful McRaes the added Propper insoles are a great
Addition for comfort and support!!!
Your missing out on great leather and perfection by buying the more expensive boots!
Stay with McRaes and be a man!!!

I love these boots being all leather just like my old leather combat boots back in the late 70s and 80s when I was in training. Not only do they offer very good protection due to its high cut but they are very comfortable, pliable after being broken in. It's great against water, and thick, rich mud typically encountered in tropical jungles. It's durable against cuts, tears and a really tough boot compared to the newer textile, low cut versions. When used with thicker socks it holds in cold wintry conditions as its fully sealed. It's easy to wear with speed laces and holds firmly even with trousers tucked into it. A very tough, sturdy and classic both that won't break the bank. Love shining and maintaining mine in inspection ready mode. This lasts years and if the soles wear our you could even saw tracks into it with a saw just like I did my old one.

Honey let me tell you. First of all I'm a girl, wear 10.5 medium women, I ordered an 8. First, just know this boot is freaking awesome, looks just like the picture, 2nd its fits perfectly hugs my foot nicely and as I stand its sole is very cushy. There's maybe a half inch in the toe area, but I did try without socks. Honey, I've been looking for a good pair of combat boots for years. I love the sole looks really cool. Now as far as the width, it's perfect for me.. o was a little worried because these are boots for dudes and usually the width is to big for me but these are perfect. Now if you have a wider foot that a regular female, I would suggest you order a wide or ask customer service before you buy. Buy honey yes.. I haven't tested if its waterproof but I'm excited to have received them so quickly. Eeeee I'm so happy.

An all leather, black 10" boot is very hard to find. This is they type of boot I wore in the 70's working for Uncle Sam. This one may be better. I wear them for walking and motorcycling. For the money, can't be beat.
My size 12 were a touch small in the right toe area so I am in the process of returning them for a size 13. We will see how that goes.

I have worn Altama boots for over 20 years and was disappointed when they were no longer available. The McRae boots are equal to or better than the Altama's I have worn for so long. The only thing better than these boots is the service I received from Tacticalgear.com. The customer support and super-fast shipping should be a model for other companies.

I normally order this style boot made by Altama but could not seem to find any anywhere on the internet. These McRae boots seem just as good. The leather might actually be softer and the sole is a little more bouncy, which I like. Time will be the true review of these boots. I normally get 1-2 years of all day everyday use out of my Altama boots, so we will see how these hold up. But so far, so good, no complaints yet.
