The boonie hat was introduced to the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, when U.S. Army Green Berets began wearing them in the field, along with Australian and Army of the Republic of Vietnam units. These hats were locally procured; the camo cloth was usually salvaged from other uniform items or with the former from a parachute or made up by the tailor. The name is derived from "boonie", the abbreviated form of boondocks (itself originally American military slang derived from Tagalog bundok, "mountain", during the Philippine-American War. Made to current U.S. military specs.

The hat seems to be made well except for the brim being too shallow. instead of a 3" brim it is maybe 2.5". the size is almost true to size.... just a bit to the small side.

Great hat for outdoor summer chores. Lightweight and not as sweaty as others. Could use a headband sewn in, ripstop can irritate your forehead when wet. Seems Tru-Spec does a better job of sewing the hats together than Propper. I don't have one hat from Propper that isn't cockeyed. Good job Tru-Spec.

I have several Boonie Hats. This is one of the most comfortable to wear. Product is very well made for the price. Webbing around the crown are well made. Ventilation must be great cause I found this one out of the other hats not to make me sweat as much. Straps hold the Boonie in place, colors are pretty solid M81.

I wanted the trap to have the leather tightening piece instead of the plastic but other than that this product fits and looks great!

I think the product picture, because of the cheap locking tab, does not do justice to this hat. The good fit, coupled with the plastic locking device made me a believer in this hat's ability to hang on, even in a substantial wind (25-30mph)

For the price it was cheaper than anything in my local stores. Fits well and is made well. The chinstrap is a little rough but otherwise I can get over it for that price
